Barbora Klímová, WORK programme, Tranzitdisplay 2010–2011
The project is geared toward examining active and creative approaches to the recent past. It seeks parallels to the academic model of writing history. It focuses on peripheral phenomena, neglected events and figures whose work I feel has not been adequately reflected upon.
The basis of the work consists of the mapping of private archives and cooperating with artists active from the 1970s to the 1990s. The work of the selected artists is intermedia art in the sense of crossing the boundaries of different art disciplines as well as the boundary between art and everyday life. Selections (subjectively and individually selected in communication with the artists) from their personal archives in many cases will not easily be identifiable as definitive artefacts (correspondence, personal notes, concepts, documentary photography, etc.).
The selected artists are for the most part key figures for a certain area, group of people or community. The project maps through their work and influence the local art scenes and social level of art, among other things.
The programme then experimentally tackles questions related to the mediation of artworks, of documents, of the legacies of past events, including unrepeatable circumstances, the context of creation.
